Enjoy the run

Hey y’all! I’m so excited to be writing this very first blog post!

Today, C4 Gym is bringing you… Strategies to help you make running more enjoyable!

#1 Be okay with going slow, or slower if it hurts (which it will), and taking walk breaks, especially if you are just starting out. Sometimes, no matter how long you have been running, you will need to slow down. Be OK with that. Progress gradually. Too much, too soon, can make you miserable and can lead to injury.

#2 Listen to music. I know this one is in every single article you can find on running, but it can seriously help! Make a playlist for running. I like to use the beat of the songs to help me keep a steady pace. Fast tempo songs for speed work!

#3 Run with a friend, furry or human.

#4 Take time to enjoy the scenery. Bring a camera along and take pictures of nature, or whatever you find that catches your eye. Even if you don’t take pictures, stop every now and then to take in your surroundings. Create a mindset of being grateful that you have the ability to run, and that you have a safe place to run in.

#5 Try a new location, or a different route in your town/city. Change it up!

#6 Check out trail running. When on a trail, do your best not to worry about your speed, just have fun and remember to enjoy the scenery!

Final Tip
The first 10 minutes (sometimes up to 30 minutes if you have been running longer) always hurts. Don’t quit here. Slow down and keep going through the uncomfortable feeling.

Whether you are new to running or have been running for years I hope you found these tips helpful, or at the very least, that they spark an even better idea in your mind.

Remember that running rarely gives you a comfortable feeling (well worth it when it does), but the feeling of having run is something you can enjoy often!

Have a great day, friends! Happy Running!
